The LANTERN HOUSE sits on a narrow typical urban plot admeasuring 750 SQM in Nashik city. It was mandatory to make the house on stilts as plot was located between the Red & Blue flood lines. The width of the plot was 55 feet, so after leaving the necessary side margins all we got was 22 feet to play with. It was indeed challenging with such a narrow width, the program was to have 4 Bed house( 5500 SQ.FT.) for a family of 6 persons. Adjoining structures on the South & North offered little views of the house. The highlight was the view of Godavari River on the north just after the adjacent North plot. So a Double height Living & sit out were placed in the North East corner. This corner forms the Focal point of the house. The jali lends the Lantern feel at daytime & night. Hence the LANTERN HOUSE.....
